Before:
Weird Alien Sock Thing's Arrival Expected Feb. 14, 2004
3/8/04
The Sock Thing arrived here on March 1st. Holly had already
given him the gifts of sight, smell, and the all-important unibrow. Ah! What was I to do? Sock Thing and I didn't know
what to make of each other. I flipped through Carol's journal, trying to get ideas, and my eyes fell on the word "teeth".
Teeth...my eyes glanced over to a formaldehyde jar containing the upper bridge of a wizened old vampire, a crotchety old
thing, but now long deceased. So I took out the bridge with my tongs, so carefully preserved even the gums were intact. It
was the right size for Sock Thing, so he happily underwent surgery that night to get them, though I think he actually
has a fondness for novacaine. Anyway, he played with his new teeth for awhile, letting his tentacled upper lip wag against
them. But I was stumped again. What else to do? Hair, like in Carol's journal? But what would be appropriate for a tentacled
being from another planet? Suddenly, the hat Karen picked out came to me. Of course! Dreadlocks! What would be a more
appropriate hair style for a creature with long tentacles coming out of its head? So I gave him some dreadlocks, black to
match his unibrow. I sat back pleased, but something was wanting. I looked at his nose. Hmmm, he was becoming hip, how about
a piercing? Sock Thing agreed, and a nose ring made its way between his nostrils! I've done enough damage now...time to send
him off to Karen! See what a little coffee can do? ;) Bzzzzzzzz....

Here is a picture of Sock Thing wearing his new hat, holding
his little Eyebaby! awwwww!
If any of you have trouble understanding Sock Thing, he talks
backwards and sort of mirror-image. if you listen to him while standing in a mirror with him, you can understand him. He definitely
has an alien accent, but speaks quite well. I am learning more about him.
First, the gender issue: she is a he, or rather, she is neither.
There are 3 genders in his species, and 2 of the genders can bear young (he is one of these.) He carries his babies
in a pouch like a male seahorse. He is trying to get pregnant, meanwhile, he was thrilled to have a little Eyebaby to adopt.
He has also made friends with Gonzo, and so will be traveling with him as well. Sock Thing says that Gonzo from the Muppet
Show is the closest thing he has ever seen, on earth, to someone from his planet.
Secondly, the planet he is from: he is from the planet where
Ren and Stimpy found all of the missing Left Socks in the world. It is actually close to earth, but it is in another dimension. I
will research this and let you know more about it. He knows how to travel from here to there, but there isn't a word for it
in English, so I dont know how they do it.
I am not quite sure why he has come to earth, but maybe
he will tell me.
He is quite well behaved and gentlemanly, or gentlewomanly,
or whatever he is. I am exercising caution while introducing him to the other dollies. I am sure they will get along
fine, but the Bleeding Edge Goths tend to get hysterical over little things, and cause a big fuss. Then they get Andy Scissorhands
all upset, and he starts snipping everything, and my boyfriend gets mad because he thinks I havent vacuumed, when in
reality, it's from Andy snipping his scissors all over the place. I dont even want to tell you what happened the last
time the BE Goths got upset, I introduced a goth male doll to the group...and, well, let's just say there was a BIG cat-fight. I
was finding clumps of black hair for days.

Dear Sock Thing, it's time for you to go. Sadly, you have
to leave early so you can bring Kata's birthday present to her. We've had a lot of fun together. You've got your new
arms (all the better to hug with) and your new feet (to dance your way into our hearts) and your new hat. I also made
you a necklace that says "Sock Thing" and a baby carrier. I am sorry your Eye Baby can't come with you but I promise you will
see him again soon. He is too young to travel all over the world with you. He needs to go straight home to his new Mommy,
Carol, and you will see him at her house. Travel safe, S.T., it's been fun, I miss you already. Love, Auntie Karen
